Veneers

You can take your smile from faded to fantastic with bright, natural-looking veneers with The Oral Hygiene Centre and Devonshire Dental Clinic. The aging process, combined with what we eat, drink and smoke, can really take its toll on your teeth, making the enamel look thin, worn and discoloured. This can age your entire face. But with veneers, you can have the straight, white smile you have always dreamed of. If you have any questions about veneers please don’t hesitate to contact a member of our team.

What is a dental veneer?
A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain made to fit over the front surface of a tooth, just like a false fingernail fits over a nail. They are made specially to fit your teeth.

Why would I need a veneer?
Veneers can improve the colour, shape and function of your teeth. You may wish to cover up a single discoloured or stained tooth or lighten your front teeth. If your teeth are chipped, then a veneer can be used to cover the whole front of the tooth with a thicker section to replace the broken part. Veneers can also be used to close small gaps between your teeth.

How are teeth prepared for a veneer?
Some of the outer enamel surface of the tooth may be removed to make sure that the veneer can be bonded permanently in place later. Once the tooth has been prepared, the dentist will take an impression of your teeth, which will be used to create your veneer to exact specifications.

Do veneers take long to fit?
Having veneers fitted will take at least two visits: the first to prepare the tooth, take an impression and to match the shade, and the second to fit the veneer in place, your dentist will show you the veneer on your tooth to make sure you’re happy with it.

How long will a veneer last?
Veneers should last for many years but they can chip or break just like normal teeth. Small chips can be repaired, or a new veneer fitted if necessary.
